Description of the organization

SolidarityNow was established in 2013. Through initiatives and the services provided to the Greek, migrant and refugee populations, seeks to restore the vision of a strong Europe based on solidarity and open society values.

SolidarityNow main objective is to support the most vulnerable members of our society indiscriminately, through innovative social actions.

SolidarityNow designs and implements programs that provide assistance and support to those most affected by the economic downturn and the humanitarian crisis.
We collaborate with international humanitarian agencies (e.g. UNHCR, UNICEF, IOM etc) to implement programs in a manner that promotes efficiency and allows us to reach the broadest range of beneficiaries, including vulnerable populations.

These programs focus on:

1.responding to the ongoing refugee crisis
2.providing access to basic health services and food aid
3.defending human rights and freedoms
4.supporting the integration of minorities and vulnerable groups

SolidarityNow | Actions

The organization implements multiple actions, the dynamic planning of which is always made with a view to meeting the needs of people and populations in need.

“Pathway to All Children in Education (ACE)” project: ACE aims to facilitate the integration of refugee and migrant children in the formal education setting through the provision of non-formal education (NFE) services in Homework and Creative Activities Centres (HCACs) and other complementary activities. The non-formal education services are directly provided in 12 Open Accommodation Sites across mainland Greece and 3 urban centres (Athens, Thessaloniki and Ioannina), with the support of UNICEF Greece and co-funding from the European Union.

On the side of adults who wish to work and integrate into the Greek society, through the HELIOS integration program. SolidarityNow operates 5 Integration Learing Centers, providing Greek and skills development courses for adults, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and funding from the Ministry of Migration and Asylum.

For the unaccompanied children turning 18 in Greece, SolidarityNow implements along with the Special Secretariat for the Protection of Unaccompanied Minors in Greece and other European partners, the UACFutures project, aiming at the exchange of best practices regarding the four key areas known for their impact in Unaccompanied Children’s (UACs) life namely: psychological impact and support, legal support and access to basic rights, access to education and the labour market and access to accommodation.

“Empower YOUth” project. The project aims to empower youth, from different vulnerable groups, such as the Roma, the refugees/asylum seekers/migrants, disabled youngsters, persons from the LGBTQ+ community or from disadvantaged/remote areas that live under the poverty line, to become leaders and actively bring a positive change within their communities.

Healing Trauma through Play (Healing Play) aims to support refugee children and their parents, primarily those arriving from Ukraine, with psychological support and educational activities to promote empowerment, psychological resilience opportunities, and processing of their challenges. The project is implemented in partnership with the UTechLab of the Eugenides Foundation and is funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs through the American Spaces program.
