Description of the organization
InCommOn deals with the circular economy through active citizenship. The activation of citizens is a necessary condition to live in circular neighborhoods and consequently in circular cities. By closing the circle in our neighborhoods we enjoy better quality of life, with less waste, saving energy while nobody and nothing is left over. InCommOn's innovative and holistic approach and methodology put active citizenship and participatory development at the forefront of the process.

Kyklos, the lab of InCommOn
The first space in Greece that correlates the circular economy with the neighborhood and investigates in practice how it will become more ""circular"", through activities for everyone. Kyklos is based in the Ano Poli neighborhood, in Thessaloniki.
In Kyklos, activities take place on a weekly basis, such as workshops, production & knowledge exchange meetings, movie nights, gastronomic walks, events with the neighborhood and information campaigns.
kaFsimo
Through kaFsimo project, we change habits, mentality and help the environment, via the first participatory recycling of coffee residue in Greece. Our favorite and familiar drink, coffee, is highlighting the value of its residues - residues that would otherwise end up as organic waste unused in the landfill. The community is preparing for the proper use of the coffee bins so that organic waste is diverted from the landfill while at the same time the coffee residue is utilized as biofuel or compost. The first successful implementation of the project is in Thessaloniki and Kilkis with a network of 70 cafes for a period of two years from 2020-today.
It is worth mentioning that this year a kindergarten in Karditsa will cover its heating needs with pellets from the residual coffee from kaFsimo, in collaboration with the Energy Cooperative Company of Karditsa.
In addition, kaFsimo turns the festivals in Greece into zero coffee waste, saving all the residues produced in them.
FoodTreasure
The FoodTreasure program is about educating the entire school community in the circular economy through the proper management of organic waste. With informational actions and experiential education activities, we have allies in the budding generation of citizens as a ""key"" group to change the already formed belief that exists about food waste and organic waste in general, attracting even the older ones, so that no food waste ends up in the landfill again! Educators have received the ""Educational package: FoodTreasure"", to support those who want to tackle the important topic of organic waste management and the concept of circular economy and need access to material, for both information and activities.
Close the food circle
In a municipality near Athens, the team is already cooperating with the local authority on educating the public about the correct use of ‘brown bins’, through research of the existing situation, continuous communication with the Municipality, citizens and businesses and the implementation of actions in the field.
Volunteering opportunities provided by the organization.
ΙnCommOn offers volunteer opportunities to people who want to interact with the community and participate in our activities in order to make neighborhoods in Thessaloniki and Athens more circular. Given our small group and the lockdown periods our volunteer network is currently starting to be built more intensively.Our team is active in Thessaloniki and in Athens and our activities with the community are implemented throughout the year, so no specific volunteer registration period has been set, but it depends on the needs of each case.
