Description of the organization

"ABBAHOUSE is a Non-Profit Organization; founded in March 2016, it carried out the vision of creating a private child welfare agency that will respond to the country’s great need for the care of children in need or at risk.

ABBAHOUSE is an organized accommodation facility for minors who are deprived of parental care either due to natural causes, or after removal of custody by the competent judicial authorities. The Internal regulation of procedures of the organization is designed by the standards and directions of European Union, focusing on the child and his need to grow up in a family environment. Efforts are focused on strengthening the child’s natural family or collaborating with foster care services. Until the appropriate family environment is found, ABBAHOUSE is assigned an intermediary role, like a supply station. In a cozy, neutral and non-threating environment, the child is surrounded by trained and qualified adults, as well as children of various ages, who all contribute to his adaption and healing. In this transitional stage, the child is soothed and strengthened.
Η δομή φιλοξενεί αγόρια ηλικίας 1-12 ετών, και κορίτσια 1-18 ετών ανεξαρτήτου εθνικότητας, καταγωγής, χρώματος και άλλων διακρίσεων, ενώ παράλληλα αναλαμβάνει την φροντίδα ασυνόδευτων ανηλίκων προσφύγων σε συνεργασία με δημόσιους και ιδιωτικούς φορείς. Η δομή στελεχώνεται από κοινωνικούς λειτουργούς, ψυχίατρο, ψυχολόγο, κοινωνικούς φροντιστές και εθελοντές.Παράλληλα, ΤΟ ΣΠΙΤΙ ΤΟΥ ΠΑΤΕΡΑ σε συνεργασία με δημόσιες και ιδιωτικές υπηρεσίες, συνεργάζεται, σχεδιάζει και υλοποιεί δράσεις πρόληψης, και στήριξης μονογονεικών, απόρων και πολύτεκνων οικογενειών με συνεδρίες ψυχολογικής υποστήριξης, συμβουλευτική, σεμινάρια δεξιοτήτων, ευκαιρίες δια βίου μάθησης, υλική υποστήριξη, αλλά και ενημερωτικές εκδηλώσεις για το ευρύ κοινό για θέματα παιδικής φροντίδας και προστασίας.

Actions that the organisation has organised or in which it has actively participated

Two-day Children's Outdoor Festival.

The first day of the festival was educationally framed by the scientific team of iSea, an Environmental Conservation Organization for the Preservation of the Aquatic Ecosystems. With the #zeroplastic program, games and interactive exercises were presented with the aim of informing children about plastic and microplastic pollution in the Greek seas. Also, through the Thermaikos Dolphin Project information about dolphins and whales were presented through games. The festival ended on June 29, with many activities focusing on emotional development, social and self-awareness skills, coordinated by the volunteer group of ARSIS Social Organization for Youth Support. The festival aimed to introduce child protection facilities like ABBAHOUSE to the community, as well as to raise awareness and empower with emotional skills all the children, regardless of language and origin. The action was attended by families from the local community and also families from Ukraine accompanied by the staff of the Monopigado Community Center, while it was supported by companies, businesses, social and environmental organizations and our network of volunteers.
Το φεστιβάλ είχε ως στόχο την γνωριμία της κοινότητας με την δομή, την ευαισθητοποίηση και την ψυχοκοινωνική υποστήριξη παιδιών από κοινού ανεξαρτήτως γλώσσας και καταγωγής. Στην δράση συμμετείχαν οικογένειες από την τοπική κοινότητα, οικογένειες από την Ουκρανία που φιλοξενούνται από τον Πολιτιστικό Σύλλογο Μονοπήγαδου και ο Δήμος Θέρμης, ενώ υποστηρίχθηκε από εταιρείες, επιχειρήσεις, κοινωνικές και περιβαλλοντολογικές οργανώσεις και το δίκτυο εθελοντών.

Open information event on fostering in our society

Specifically, the formal fostering procedures, the differences between fostering and adoption and the ways in which someone can become a foster parent were presented. The purpose of the event was to raise awareness among our fellow citizens about the institution of foster care in Greece. Our campaign was organized in cooperation with the Association of the "Network of Foster Parents and Volunteers" and Mrs. Georgarou Eleni, legal advisor on foster care and adoption issues.

Volunteering opportunities provided by the organization.

Voluntary action for the support of community events (organizational assistance, creative activities, psychoeducational framing of events, creative workshops for bazaars, collection and sorting of donated items). The volunteer network consists of people aged 18+ regardless of origin with Greek or English being the main communication languages. Experience and familiarity with social care and child protection services would be some of the preferred skills.You can become a volunteer all year-round.
Το δίκτυο εθελοντών αποτελείται από άτομα ηλικίας 18+ ανεξαρτήτως καταγωγής με γλώσσα επικοινωνίας την Ελληνική και Αγγλική. Προτιμητέα η εμπειρία και εξοικείωση με δομές κοινωνικής φροντίδας, και παιδικής προστασίας.Οι εθελοντές μπορούν να δηλώσουν ενδιαφέρον συμμετοχής όλο τον χρόνο.
