Description of the organization
In the year 2002, the organization ""OASIS"" was founded as a rahabilitation centre for addicted individuals by Damianos Duitsis, its president, Yiannis Boutaris, former Mayor of Thessaloniki, and 20 other former addicts and their family members.
""OASIS"" is self-financed and relies on the financial assistance of its members to carry out activities in and out of the centre, including excursions throughout Greece (Speeches, streetwork, seminars and other events)
""OASIS"" with the legal form of civil non-profit partnership, belongs to the National Register of Non-Profit Organizations (providing Social Care services), to the Special Register of Voluntary Non-Governmental Organizations and holds Administrative Competence for the execution of projects within the framework of the NSRF.
We are in the center of Thessaloniki in a space of 250 sq.m. where we receive dozens of visitors every day.
We hold information and support events on addiction issues all over Greece, but we also support people from all over the country by phone and online.
We have created an important electronic archive (Video-spots and documentaries) available online.
In our 20 years of operation, we have supported approximately 10,000 people throughout the country and have become a point of reference in the field of drug addiction, having been the first to introduce in Greece the 12-step treatment method, according to the model of ""Alcoholics Anonymous"", a method worldwide recognized for its therapeutic effects.
This is where the self-help groups of Alcoholics, Drug addicts, Gamblers, Overeaters and Sex addicts started, with whom we are in contact and cooperation.
The way we operate has a very positive result because it is based on the cooperation of the scientific community with the religious sector, volunteers and people who have experienced the problem of addiction.
Our presence on social media is strong, having a website, two personal profiles and two facebook pages, an Instagram and a large presence on you tube with a series of videos that we have created ourselves.
For all of the above, we have become a point of reference throughout Greece in the field of addiction.
For our actions, we were awarded by the President of the Republic, the Ministry of Health, the Prefecture of Thessaloniki, by Rotary and the acclaimed institution BRAVO.
""OASIS"" fills a big gap that cannot be covered by state and private agencies:
People in the early stages of alcoholism.
Cannabis addicts
Internet addicts (Gaming-Social media-gambling)
Elderly addicts with difficulties and reluctance to join a long-hour structured ""mass"" therapeutic framework.
Addicts with a heavy history of ""failed"" treatment attempts.
Addicts who wish to join a community of ""peers"" with shared personal experiences and experiences.
Addicts of a mild form who function socially, (legally administered substances – anxiolytics-sedatives.
Addicted individuals before their admission to a inpatient rehabilitation centre, or in case they discontinue their therapeutic program early.
People with addictive behavior in interpersonal relationships, (love & sex addiction) to the point that it negatively affects their lives.
People with addictive behaviors (shopping, porn, sports with the use of anabolic steroids, extreme sports – tattoo maniacs, etc.)
Codependents, (parents, partners, children, friends).
""OASIS"" aims to keep accepting those in need and their family members and to continue supporting individuals throughout Greece with addiction councelors and volunteers.

1. International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 27/6/2022
In the spirit of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, ""OASIS"" organized under the auspices of the social policy deputy mayor of the municipality of Thessaloniki, an event entitled: ""How we defeat drug addiction""
Politicians, representatives of the scientific community, teachers, health professionals and members of OASIS spoke about the scourge of drugs and the solution to the problem. Attendees and orators included: Mr. Kalafatis (Minister of Macedonia Thrace), Mrs. Patoulidou (District Governor), Mrs. Dermetzopoulou (Deputy Head of Social Policy), Mr. Bakaloudis (Commander of Drug Enforcment Administration), Mr. Mittas (former Deputy Head of Social Policy), Mr. Boutaris (former Mayor of Thessaloniki), Hieromonk Father Artemios.
2. Book presentation of OASIS president Damianos Duitsis 3/20/2015
""OASIS"" presented a book written by the author and mental health consultant Irini Kritsotakis and the author and founder of the NGO OASIS Damianos Duitsis, which informs and advises, entitled ""The Seduction of Addiction"".
Its pages convey the 23-year experience of Mr. Duitsis in the field of addiction and the fairytale story of Mrs. Kritsotakis for the confrontation with addictions. Presentation of the book took place at the Thessaloniki City Hall. The Mayor of Thessaloniki Mr. Boutaris opened the event and presented the book, followed by Mr. Damianos Duitsis and the ERT journalist Ms. Elsa Poimenidou. It was attended by a large number of people, citizens and journalists. The presentation was followed by questions from the audience and TV channels.

Upcoming mental health and social studies professionals. Participation in information activities aimed at preventing drug use, promoting the actions of OASIS and raising public awareness of the problem of addictions. Opportunity to participate in experiential self-improvement groups. OASIS offers 20 years of experience in the field of addictions and an extensive literature on the subject. Volunteers have the opportunity to take part in talks to parents, children and adolescents on prevention and protection from addictions.Oppourtunities to volunteer are available during the entire year.
