Description of the organization
Pervolarides Thessaloniki, Greece is a voluntary group in the wider area of Thessaloniki in the form of a non-profit association, with the main purpose of existence the promotion of social solidarity and permaculture.
Our group was founded in 2013 via a group of active citizens and started as a grassroots movement to meet the needs created by the economic and social crisis in recent years.
Based on food and the relationships formed throughout the food cycle (from seeding and cultivation, harvesting, processing and cooking, to the reclamation and processing of wasted food), we consistently engage with following areas:
- Social kitchen: We cook for our fellow citizens, the homeless and people in need. We share our recipes and stories. Collective cooking provides the foundation for social cooperation and solidarity.
- Food reclamation: We reclaim food that is close to its expiration date or cannot be sold due to packaging. We also recover fruit, vegetables, fish, baked goods that would otherwise end up in the landfill.
- We grow fruit and vegetables with the method of permaculture, collecting rainwater and composting materials we don't need. We are experimenting with the cultivation methods of raised beds and hugelkultur. We strive for our nutritional self-sufficiency. We wish to regenerate not only traditional farming techniques, but also relationships in the community.
- Beekeeping: is a traditionally collaborative process that teaches us how to work with bee populations to produce organic honey, while supporting the natural regeneration process by nurturing nature's pollinators.
- Workshops on household self-sufficiency and food sovereignty. Through the exchange of recipes, ideas and knowledge we are empowered as we save food which we turn into sauces, jams, sweets, pickles, pies etc.
- Collaborative and community empowerment workshops within the framework of the Do-It-Yourself culture on making seed bombs, insect hotels, composting, gardening, food rescue, etc.
- Activities related to informing the community on issues such as food waste, food sovereignty, destruction of the natural environment of bees, soil degradation, cleaning and regeneration of abandoned spaces, urban sustainability, systemic change as well as defense of the commons.
- Synergies with public schools and social agencies through the provision of consultancy and expertise in food processing and the development of zero waste communities.
- Exchange of good practices through visits to similar organizations from Germany on the basis of co-operative housing and the social and solidarity economy (SSE).

Volunteering opportunities provided by the organization.
All the practices we apply are directly intertwined with the empowerment and involvement of the local community and unite people of different origins (age, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, etc.), while it wouldn't be possible to carry out without the participation of the people who come to our open calls.
We support and promote a way of life in which regenerative practices (which aim to improve or ""regenerate"" interpersonal relationships, social cohesion and ecological consciousness) are applied in our daily actions, and reflected in our vision that we have for our community us as a undivided set of its members.
There is no limit to participation, we operate all year round.
