Description of the organization
ARSIS – Association for the Social Support of Youth is a Non Governmental Organization, specializing in the social support of youth that are in difficulty or danger and in the advocacy of their rights. The main target is the prevention of youth marginalisation, the elaboration of policies which defend youth rights and the active social support towards disadvantaged young people. ARSIS was established in 1992 and since then it operates in Athens, Thessaloniki, Volos, Alexandroupoli, Kozani and Tirana due to the active participation of members, volunteers and young people.
ARSIS' vision is a society with equal opportunities for all young people and respect for their rights, as stated in Greek and international legislation, especially the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
ARSIS' mission is to undertake actions to prevent the social exclusion of young people. In this context, it develops methodologies and tools to support young people, organizes and participates in networks, collaborates with public services and non-governmental organizations and formulates proposals in the field of social policy for children and young people.
ΑRSIS works mainly with young men and women between the ages of 15 and 21, and as the case may be, with younger children or older persons who experience life conditions burdening their smooth personal development and their access to social goods. Conditions such as inadequate family support, neglect, abuse, exploitation, rejection from the education system, immigration, refugee status, homelessness, unemployment, conflict with the law, living in institutions or correctional facilities, etc.
ARSIS is supported by qualified staff and trained volunteers and works based on the collective values of social solidarity, acceptance, democracy and mutual respect. In the office of each city where it operates, there is a team of executives who share the responsibilities of planning, developing and monitoring its project. The volunteers join groups and are supervised by the responsible executives.
ARSIS meets citizens to share with them its achievements, concerns and proposals, with the aim of their participation in the effort to improve the position and role of young people in society.
ARSIS believes that young people can overcome the conditions that lead them to isolation. It is enough to be with them in this effort.
